Richly filling my world, are insects, art & thought. This has been true since I was a kid. My tools, nets, jars & crayons, have become paints & pointillism.
Insects have been around far longer than we have. We may suppose they arrived on the scene without much fanfare. Evidently, sometime after protozoa turned themselves into mitochondria and chloroplasts within other cells. This unlikely alliance prospered and grew into ever more complex things. Gradually, elaborate and beautiful lifeforms emerged.
Painting bugs and thinking have filled many of my days, weeks and months. As such, the considering of them has been an evolving process. The days of chasing them through fields have faded in time. In contrast, these days I am more focused on keeping insects from taking over the house.
Insects, art and thought will always be somewhere on the stage that is my life. But painting bugs and thinking about them eating the house is not the only thing on my mind. I am captivated by their beauty, number and diversity.
Imagine an insect. As you will see, something specific comes to mind. Is it a butterfly, a beetle, a mosquito or dragonfly? Insects, art and thought may not dominate your every waking minute. We all need a bit of rest. In any case, I am sure they appear randomly in your life. Even if it is only the bees on your flowers or the termites in the woodwork.
Personally, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about beetles and butterflies. So different from us. There is an uncountable number of bugs in the world. Powerful and indifferent to our desires.
